Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Co-op purchase

I purchased a co-op 1yr ago. The seller recently contacted me claiming monies were wrongly refunded to me at the closing rather than to him and if I don't pay he has a claim to the property.

Re: Co-op purchase

I can't imagine how thw seller could now have any claim on the land. If you were represented by a lawyer in the transaction, you should call that lawyer. I could help, but I see that Mr. Davies has answered also and he is closer to you.

Re: Co-op purchase

While I concur with Bob and John, there may be some legitimacy to the claim. You do not describe what type of item the claim is about (SUCH AS A CLOSING CREDIT, LIKE REAL ESTATE TAXES OR COOP FEES). Did you check your closing statement to check all items? Did you check with your closing attorney to see if the claim is legitimate? Just because a year has passed, does not mean the claim is not legitimate. This is a response to an Internet question and the reply is not intended to be legal advice or to create an attorney-client relationship. Missing facts could result in a different response.
