Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Two days ago I bought a hedgehog from a private seller. I noticed yesterday some blood in his cage and today, 2 days after purchase, confirmed it has blood in it's urine. I told the person that sold it to me what was going on and that I wanted to return it and get my money back. She has not agreed; am I protected by any animal protection laws, do I have any recourse? Thank you

NJ has a pet protection law regarding animals that become sick or die shortly after their purchase. However, "animal" is defined as ""Animal" means a cat or dog", so it seems it does not apply to hedgehogs. I suggest checking if the seller has complaints against him either with the Better Business Bureau or the State Office of Consumer Affairs. Both can be checked on line.
