Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I did not know to sign a discharge of mortgage for a mortgage that my brother & I were holding in 1991. The owners now want to sell the property and there is a lien because of this. My brother cannot be located because he is homeless. what are my responsibilities?

You do not say if there is a balance due, or the mortgage was paid off and never discharged? If it was or is being paid off in full, you can issue a discharge mentioning that the mortgage was paid and the other owner is not available.
