From the perspective of a Maryland lawyer not licensed in NJ, I would think it is a good idea to at least consult with a NJ lawyer, who may be able to get the charge reduced.

As the other attorney said, it always makes sense to consult with an attorney before doing anything. I cannot tell you, without speaking to you, that you should or should not do anything. However, careless driving is rather minor and it doesn't make sense for some (or most) people to get an attorney.

This is a 2 point ticket. I can get it changed to a 0 point ticket without you having to come to court. The only problem is that it could be very expensive to get a 0 point ticket in NJ, as much as $485.00. If you just pay the ticket then you will pay a far smaller fine but would have 2 motor vehicle points assessed against you. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout New Jersey in the past. Please contact me to discuss your case. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
