Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Pulled over, but they got the wrong guy

Well, I was driving along at about 10:30 PM from my girlfriend's house and I went around a bend and saw a police car sitting there trying to nail speeders I guess. Well about a half mile down the road he zooms behind me and whips past like 2 cars and pulls me over. He takes my documents and comes back to my car and says ''I'm going to let you go blowing that stop sign and just give you a ticket for an expired registration'', which was expired about 10 days. I didn't even blow any kind of stop sign I said ''Didn't you see me pass you before I wasn't breaking any kind of law.'' He just said ''Well regardless you have an expired registration.'' Is there any way I can fight this he wrote me up for a $180 Failure to presents docs fine and I really can't afford it. Thank you.

Go to court and talk to the prosecutor; he might give you a substituted charge with a lessor fine.

A substituted charge is called an amendment to the complaint.
