Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I received a NJ ticket for 39:8-4 Failure to Make Repairs. I did fail inspection and was past the 30 days I was given to fix the check engine light. I tried to fix this but the light wouldn't turn off. When I got pulled over I showed the cop that I was now using CRC Guaranteed to Pass and that it takes 2 gas tank cycles (over a month for me) to clear the code that failed emissions. So I now I have this ticket even though I'm trying to pass. Is there any defense to get this ticket dropped? Is there any other ticket I can get this reduced to since its $130? Should I go back to inspection and fail again just to get updated paperwork? Thank you!

You may just want to go to Court. You should request a Court date and show up and explain the situation to the Municipal Prosecutor and see if there is anything he or she can do to reduce the ticket for you. It sounds like you have a reasonable explainantion for the situation. I think that is probably the most logical thing to do. good luck
