Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I got a ticket for failure to yeild in a crosswalk. Pedestrian was 2 steps into the crosswalk on the opposite side of a 2 lane downtown street with no middle island. When I noticed her, 2 steps in, I would have had to slam on the brakes to stop possiblily causing an accident. I did not feel in anyway that there was an unsafe situation here. Also the police officer was sitting in a vehicle on a side street, my side of the street, so for part of the time his vision was obstructed.

Questions -

1- what are my chances for pleading not guilty? By myself or hire an attny?

2- BTW - I did go to court the first date - the police officer was not there - since I plead not guilty should not this case have been dismissed in my favor? It was rescheduled.
