Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

ticket non-payment consequences

I have received 2 tickets in Nj. One was for an illegal turn on red. The other for not having updated car (Pennsylvania) registration (taken care of the next day). The tickets were given in March, and I haven`t paid. I have a warrant of arrest issued 06/06 and it is now 07/05. Who should I talk to? If I post bail will they still put me in jail? Would it be possible to pay without going to the department? Will my license be suspended? What should I do?!?! I have a clean record otherwise!

The arrest warrant is worse than anything else. It shouldn't be a very expensive ordeal and I may be able to avoid you having to go to court. The State courts are closed so I'm in my office all day. My consultations are free, so give me a call at 732/247/3340 and we'll discuss your options.

Good luck!

you have problems with this in NJ. Fortunately for you, NJ can only suspend your ability to drive in NJ and cannot take your licensee. You can and will be arrested for non payment ofo the fine. YOu should get the money together and hire an attorney ASAP

Re: ticket non-payment consequences

I'm not sure if the prior answers actually answered your question. Let's give it a shot. There's a warrant for arrest out for you in NJ because you either failed to appear in court or failed to pay any fines assessed against you if you did appear. If you get stopped in NJ for any reason the warrant will come up and you'll be arrested. Bail will be set at whatever the court orignally set it at -- up to $2,500.00 (probably less though). To clean this up, call the court, speak to the court administrator and explain the situation. You'll likely be given a new date to appear. When you appear you'll need to deal with the tickets (guilty or innocent/trial) and explaining to the judge why you did not appear the first time or didn't pay the fines. Have a good and true answer. You may wish to retain an attorney, but it's not required. Don't delay. Handle this now to avoid any sleepless nights.

You should call the court and ask if you can plead guilty by affidavit, assuming you are guilty. If the answer is negative or if you are concerned about motor vehicle points, call me and I will handle the matter for you.
