uninsured motorist accident

i was involved in a car accident 08-03-00, did not insurence on my vehicle. the other person was at fault explained the officer. since i had no insurance i was nervous and left the scene and tried to notify the authorities from a relatives house 1 mile away. before they were contacted they pulled into the driveway. so the call wasn't completed. my vehicle is brand new. i was charged with-no insurance-unsafe vehicle-failure to report-leaving the scene- what is the max penalty i can face, how do i go about getting my vehicle fixed, are public defenders available. noone was injured in the accident.

In NJ, a "Leaving the scene" citation carries a

fine of $500 to $1,000, and license suspension for

a period of one year for a first offense. Jail can be

imposed for 180 days, if there is personal injury

to a person other than the driver.
