Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

beneficiary in will

I was the guardian of my ex-wife's son for 8 yrs. before we divorced. I never legally adopted him. What is his relationship to me, specifically what do I name him as, if I want him to be a beneficiary in my will?

Re: beneficiary in will

If you never adopted your ex-wife's son, then he has no "legal" relationship to you (e.g. as a biological child or an adopted child would).

Nevertheless, you can certainly name him as a beneficiary in your Will (you will only need to list his name, you don't have to include your relationship to him).
