Re: How to get a will

If you want to avoid World War III, my advice is to contact the local police or Sherriff's office and have them escort you/and or the other side of the family into the house to conduct a search for the Will. Also, if you know what law firm drafted the Will, you may also want to call them and see if they have the original Will or a copy.

I agree with Jon, but offer another possibility, if you cannot get the other side to agree or find the lawyer: Apply to the Surrogate's Court to be administrator of the estate. This may be a little expensive, as it is possible that a fiduciary bond may be required. This appointment will allow you access to the house. If you find a Will, you can then change from an adminitration to a Will probate.
