Legal Question in Workers Comp in New Jersey

I am a contractor and provided work for a business. I has hired as an independent contractor and now he wants to deduct money off his bill because I do not have workers comp ins. Can he legally do that.

Only if there was a written agreement, meaning a contract, saying you would be covered under his workers compensation policyh during the period of the contract between the two of you.
