Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico

I was shooting into the water at a lake that had geese, not hunting them, but bored from turkey hunting. A game warden charged me with hunting geese in the wrong season, he would not believe me when I told him other wise. He told me he would cut me some slack if I told him what he wanted to hear and very stupidly, I said I was, hoping to at lest get my guns back. I didn't. Now I've been told to plead no contest, I don't know what that means, and will I lose my hunting and fishing rights and my guns?

A "no contest" plea is the same as a guilty plea, and will be treated as such. You will lose your right to a hunting license, you may not get your firearm back, and you will have a permanent criminal record. If you are not guilty, then you should plead not guilty. You may not win, but at least you took a stand. If you don't have a lawyer, you should. You have a lot at stake to enter a plea without knowing what the outcome will be. Consult a criminal defense lawyer in your town, or apply to the Public Defender if you think you are eligible. Get solid legal advice before you take action in your case.
