there is a entertainment company that is interested in my script. should I have an attorney before I sign anything?

From the phrasing of your question, it's obvious that you know the obvious answer: of course you should! Be sure that you hire someone conversant with the law selected in the proposed contract (i.e., if it says "contract is governed by the law of NY" ask the lawyer if he knows NY law).

Yes. You should retain an entertainment lawyer to review the terms of the Agreement. Depeding on the size of the company, you may have no input on the choice of law, but other terms such as payments and how they are made are the most important. Also consider other forms of media in which your script could be used.
