Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

Child Custody

I am trying to get half custody of my 18 month old daughter but it is hard becuase her dad has had her since she was born. I let him take my daughter from the hospital after she was born becuase I did not feel responsible enough then (I was only 17) to raise a baby. Now I realize that was a mistake because she is better of with me now that I have a good job, I have my high school diploma and I am living on my own I would like to try to have her more than just weekends like we have been doing for the past 8 months. But what do I need to do legaly? Please Help!

Re: Child Custody

Was this a divorce or paternity? In either case, you are looking for custody, therefore, you will have to file a Petition for Custody. This can get very complicated, therefore, you should retain an attorney in your area.
