Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Mexico

My boyfriend moved out of my home in Farmington NM on jan 8 2012 he did not take all of his belongings I have tried to arrange for him to come pick them up he either does not show up or does not return my calls. My question is am I obligated to keep his things until he picks them up or can I get rid of them? I also may have to move soon and if I am obligated to keep them until he gets around to picking them up would I then have to move them with me?

Contact him however you can and notify him that you are assessing storage charges of $25.00 per day from a start date until he picks them up, and if he doesn't pick them up by the deadline you set you will sell his stuff under your storage lien. Safeguard the items until he responds, which should be shortly. Do it in writing or by some method which will provide you a record of your contact with him.
