Legal Question in Insurance Law in New Mexico

Lapsed car insurance

I thought I payed my renewal but I forgot. I was told the insurance lapsed but I can still pay the premium within the next month and it will be reinstated. Can I still drive if I intend to pay the premium in time, say tomorrow or now.

Re: Lapsed car insurance

It is illegal to drive without insurance. If your insurance is not currently in force, you should not drive until it is re-instated. It is not clear whether or not you are currently in a "grace period", e.g., insurance still covers you even though you are in default on the policy. The wording of your question does not make it sound like you were told you were in a "grace period." Do not take any chances with this, the legal consequences of driving without insurance are very severe.
