Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Mexico

a mobile home i was renting burned a week ago. i stiill have not been allowed assess into the trailer by order of police i was told not to cross the fire line i have not been able to get a staight answer from the police, fire dpt, or landlord. do they have the legal right to deny me assess to whatever personal belongings that may be salvagable. i just don't undrestand why. is it the police,landlord.fire dpt

I assume that the fire ruins are the site of an active investigation for arson. If that is true, they do have the right to keep you and everyone else but law enforcement and fire personnel out until the investigation is complete. However, you have the right to insist that they protect whatever belongings of yours that may be salvageable from vandalism, theft, rain damage, and other damage from exposure to the elements. You should notify the police and fire departments IN WRITING that you are requesting your belongings and that, if they will not let you enter and claim them immediately, that you are requesting that your belongings be kept safe from theft, vandalism, and the elements.
