Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

I am being evicted along with my 3 children ages 4, 2 and 1.
My case is a lil weird... I was technically given succession rights in July 2009
but my landlord would never give me a legal lease with my name on it which I needed in order to get assistance with paying my rent... now this case has been dragged out since about May of 2009 when my grandfather (the original tenant) had passed away. This is not the first time I hve gotten an eviction notice but I believe I am all out of options. The only option I have left is the shelter and I am really trying to find a way to avoid dragging my kids through the nasty shelter system of New York City
