Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

I cannot keep up with my credit card payments in the near future. I am paying them on time and still have a good credit score but owe about $15,000.00. At least two of the credit card companies have raised the interest rates forcing me to close out at least two of my four accounts. I have a car and work as a nurse but I just can't pay the crazy interest rates anymore. What can I do? I am really depressed and feel it is a never ending battle. I also got divorced in the last year and put myself through nursing school (none of the debt are part of school loans--it was paid by a scholarship). Can I file for bankruptcy and keep my car starting off with a clean slate. I know my credit will be down the drain but at this point it soon will be.

Possibly. To answer your question with certainty we would need to know which chapter you would be filing, the value of your car, if there are any liens etc. I'm sorry to hear that you are depressed, but you are doing the right thing by seeking legal advice. You should schedule a free consultation with a bankruptcy attorney. Please let me know if we can be of assistance. All the best.

This is not legal advice. We are a law firm and debt relief agency.
