Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

fees

Hi,

I would like to know what are the fees a lawyer charges when a person files bankruptcy, and what are the fees he should charge his client when the companies decide to settle with him? Also when the client files bankrupcy, shouldn't his credit report states that everything is charged off.

Thank you very much.

Re: fees

Each attorney or firm sets their own fee schedule. Attorneys' fees are generally based on the amount of time spent on a case multiplied by the attorney's hourly rate.

A credit report should list the bankruptcy and the discharged debts. If the debts that were discharged are listed as active, you should contact the credit reporting agency that generated the report to inform them of the bankruptcy discharge.
