Re: private student loans

Under current law discharge (i.e., wiping out) of student loans in bankruptcy is available in very limited circumstances, typically involving serious medical problems of the student loan debtor, and/or inability to earn even a very modest income, and/or extremely limited long term future income prospects.

For many people with student loan problems and regular income, chapter 13 bankruptcy may provide some relief, particularly to stop wage garnishments and bank levies. We have used chapter 13 to help many clients with student loan problems.
