In general, most licenses and permits are based on your company's legal name rather than the trade name / vanity name you use. The trade name / vanity name you use for your restaurant is often different than the company's corporate legal name. For example the corporate name could be "A&B Food Seller Inc." and your restaurant's trade name could be "Tasty Food".

With respect to the liquor license, if you are adding a new name corporate name under what is commonly known as a DBA (Doing Business As), then you would need to send the liquor authority the filing receipt from the secretary of state or from the county clerk so that the license could reflect the new DBA name. If you are just changing your trade name / vanity name you should submit a notice to the authority with the new trade name.

Last step. if your trade name is a unique one, you should consider filing for trademark protection.
