Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Customer related

If a customer claims that we caused damage to his car from an item we installed 10 months ago, are we legally obligated to repair it at their repair shop? We were willing to fix it ourselves but they want us to pay the bill for having it done at their shop which charged double what it would have cost us to fix it. thank-you.

Re: Customer related

As worded "are you obligated..." the answer is no, or well, maybe. You would be responsible to pay for any damages that can be attributable to your services or directly as your result of your failure to perform services in a workmanlike manner, and while if it can be shown that your shop caused the damages it is reasonable to expect that the customer would want such damages fixed somewhere else, they would still have to prove the damages were caused by you and not by some intervening circumstances which may have occurred within the 10-month interval.

The questions I have are 1) What proof do they have that the damages are the result of the work you performed? and 2) If it took 10 months to report your failure to repair, what was the reason it took so long?
