Legal Question in Business Law in New York

My daughter who is 17 is involved in competition cheerleading. She went to a gym without my knowledge and practiced for three months. I had given her permission and signed registration for the 2007-2008 school year. The gym just billed my $225. Am I legally responsible for the payment if I did not sign an updated registration form?

Assuming that you signed the contract with the gym for 2007 - 2008, and the $225 charge is for that time period, then the answer is yes. You would be responsible for the bill.

In addition to the other attorney answer, you should review the terms and conditions of the registration you signed. It may provide for automatic year-to-year renewal, unless you opt out within the notice frame specified. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.
