Legal Question in Business Law in New York

I am a private citizen here in NYC that collects books and re-distributes some of them at low cost in small quantities from time to time. I wanted to contact the residents in my local area by mail and offer to pick up (for free) any unwanted books that they may have lying around.

In the postcard notice I am preparing it seems that I need to make it clear that this is a private citizen 'profit-through-recycling' effort and is not associated with any commercial or charitable organization (so they don't get the idea that I am a charity that can accept tax-exempt donations).

Are there any other legal ramifications that I need to consider in the wording of the notice that I am sending by mail or in the legality of offering to my neighbors a free service to pick up any unwanted books?

Yours is a simple business; your "advertisement" for it need not include a host of disclaimers. You need not worry so long as you do not seek to affirmatively suggest that your effort is charitable in nature.

Good luck to you.
