cacelling a check

i was given a check wich i recieved every week from my job as my paycheck. i resigned and my ex boss cancelled my last check now i have to pay my local Rite Check the amount for wich the check was worth. i dont understand if it was my check that i worked for why does he have the right to do that?

He does not have the right to cancel that check and in fact has violated the Labor Law. You should contact the State Labor dept. or the local District attorney's office to have him prosecuted. Be sure you inform the District attorney that you expect to be reimbursed the amount of the check AND any penalty assessed to you. If you are so inclined, you might also want to check with an employment lawyer to see if you can maintain any other private cause of action.
