Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Credit reporting agency gave MY report to family member!

My sister-in-law and I share a similar name (same first and last name, she has no middle name). While appying for a credit card for her daughter, she was denied and asked for her credit report. They sent her MY credit report. Now my brother and his family know my whole financial history, including my bankruptcy. Their address is even listed as one of my former addresses on that report, even though I never lived in that town! Do I have a case against this well-known agency for not only false information on that report, but disclosing that report to family without my knowledge and consent? This has caused me CONSIDERABLE embarrassment and anxiety. Thank you for your time.

I believe you do. I cannot cite you to a legal rererence, without doing some research, but I do believe you can state a cause of action.
