Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Where would I sue?

I am no longer employeed by a company that I had earned a trip to the caribbean with. They terminated me and although I worked hard to earn the trip they told me I could not go. I am considering taking them to court but do not know where to start. Can I do this locally in NY even though their head quarters is in NJ?

Re: Where would I sue?

Without knowing all the facts that would help make this answer more complete, it would be easier to get jurisdiction in NJ.

That said, you should speak to a lawyer who can investigate whether you can get jurisdiction in NY and where the law is better for your cause. (Different states have different statutes and one state may favor people in your situation)

Finally if the trip was worth enough you may even get the lawyer to bring your case.

If the trip was to a company meeting, you may want to seek the value of the trip, as the company would have a good reason not to bring an EX employee to a business meeting.

Good Luck.
