Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

i was working on tuesday doing canvassing basically going door to door for a person trying to become senator of new york and as i was waiting to be picked up a policer officer pulled up in her vehicle and asked what i was doing and said that someone had called the police cause they sa a black man in there neheiborhood as i proceeded to show her my paperwork from the job i was doing she called in another police officer and he began to tell me how it was my misfortune to be on that road and that it was because of my skin color that they came to where i was i feel that my rights as a human have been violated is it worth a lawyer
