Legal Question in Constitutional Law in New York

My city says I can only put one candidate sign on my lawn, although there are multiple races. If I want more signs I must obtain a permit for $10 sign. Is this legal?

Generally, a reviewing court must balance the state's interest in regulating speech against the individual and public's interest in protecting it (City of Ladue v. Gilleo, 512 US 43 [1994]). Therefore, more information is needed. However, as a general answer to your question, this type of restraint of freedom of speech is prohibited (Lusk v. Village of Cold Spring 475 F.3d 480 [2007]).
