grand national clearing house
received a check and letter stating i was a winner; must deposit check they sent before i get the money i won. i did enter a contest last year. Is this a scam?

You guessed it; this is a scam. You send them money and a month or two later your bank tells you their check is worthless and maybe thinks you're in on the crime. These scams work because people get greedy and really, really want to think they can get something for nothing. At least with a lotto ticket you have some chance of winning.
