Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York

Hello. I purchased a car in New York City two days ago and this is the first time I've bought at a dealership -- my mistake. The salesman gave me a price and said no fees would be charged on top of that except tax and NYS DMV fees. The deal was good and we shook hands. The finance guy printed out the contract and the car was registered at the agreed-upon price (on the DMV form). A portion of it I financed. On the Federal Truth in Landing (FTL) contract (which details how the gross price of the vehicle is determined), the prices seemed right and I signed it (seemed right because I did not notice any fees except tax and DMV fees). Long story short, I realized that he artificially jacked up the price by $1000. I went back the following day and he said it was a "standard fee" attached to all cars. At that point I spoke to the salesman and -- secretly recording the conversation on my phone -- he said he was not aware of this mandatory fee, which of course was never expressly written in the FTL. I asked him how long he's been working with the dealership and he said "a while." Moreover, after I argued it was his fault for not informing me, the consumer, about this fee, he explicitly said it was his fault (also caught on film). Do I have legal standing to reclaim my lost $1000 despite the fact that I, admittedly, hastily signed the document?

Try contacting the New York Attorney General's Office, Bureau of Consumer Fraud. Secondly,

contact the dealership's auto manufacturer's home office in the USA and inform them of the fraud and explain the event as you have stated herein. Third, you may initiate an action in the Small Claims Court to recover your money. Fourth, never sign anything before reading it thoroughly at your own pace or before contacting an attorney.
