Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Credit Card Liability upon Death

My son died owing $2000 and $8000 on credit cards. The companies are threatening to go after his estate (less than $20,000). I was named his estate administrator since he had no will. They have sent me one letter each since he died last November 2001.

Do I have to pay these?

I am currently ignoring them.

Thank you.

Dave

Re: Credit Card Liability upon Death

His estate is liable for his debts. If you liquidate the estate without paying his debts, you as his fiduciary will be liable.
