Credit card payment

If the primary card holder passes away, is the spouse who is the secondary card holder resposible for payment?

(1) The surviving spouse is always liable for charges that s/he signed for.

(2) Liability for the balance of the charges depends on the exact terms of the agreement with the card issuer and on whether the secondary user signed anything other than charge slips.
