False credit reporting

Can I sue a credit reporting company for having false information on my credit report? This is the second time the same false information has appeared on my report causing loans to either be rejected or causing lenghty hours of explaining, researching, and ameding. The first time it appeard in 1998 it took me 2 months to have the information revmoved I have all the letters sent and recieved. This information is clearly not me, different ss#, d/o/b ,middle name/initials, and address.

Re: False credit reporting

You certainly have a cause of action against the offending credit company for negligence, or dafamation of credit. Both torts, and which could subject the credit company to punitive damages in addition to your actual damages.

Re: False credit reporting

If you cleared it up with this specific credit company a few years ago & they put it right back. You have a good cause of action. You need to discuss more of the details with an attorney. If you are interested in contacting me, I can be reached at 201-646-9600.
