Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I have a judgement against me from a past business. They are not providing any proof but have sent a letter stating I owe a bank that has closed 49K. I keep asking for the paper work so I can hire a lawyer, but they are failing to provide me with anything but a bill. How can I resolve this matter? Is there a statute of limitations on this type of debt? It was a line of credit that I never signed for and then sold the business to someone else.

You need to check with the county court where your business was located. The judgment may or may not exist.

If you determine there is a judgment against you, the next question is whether you were the victim of sewer service (false service). Some process servers file false statements of service. This results in default judgments. You would be surprised how often this occurs. If they didn't serve the registered agent of the business, you should hire a lawyer to file the appropriate motions to reopen the case.
