Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I lent my ex boyfriend $2900 from October though December 2009. He has agreed to pay it back but as of yet has made no attempt. I have saved text messages from him admitting he owes me $2900 and agreed to make payments. Is this enough evidence? Do i have a case?
