private sale of automobile and allowed payments

can i repossess the vehicle for non payment? or do i need to go to court, vehicle is registered and insured by the buyer, title is still in my name, transaction was verbal, he has receipts for a few payments made.

You can but it is tricky and the cops might arrest you anyway..who knows. So, that being said, why not just sue him for the money owed? It is easier and faster and gets you in less of any potential jam.
