Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Recently i was invited to a wedding. I never sent back the wedding invite saying i was going. But when the groom to be text message me to ask if i was coming i wrote yeah sure. As the wedding approached we didn't talk much and the bachlor party came and went and i didn't even get a phone call or anything. so the day of the wedding came and i simply didn't go. now a week later i get a letter in the mail from his parents saying i owe $149.15 for 2 dinners. Letter says invoice and looks like a bill but it came direct from his parents and not the place where the reception was held. Do i really owe them this money?

I have never heard of such a thing. A wedding invitation is not an offer of a contract. Therefore, it is my opinion that you do not owe the money. However, you probably owe your friend an apology.

Mike.
