Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

served 4 credit card bills

How do I handle being served court papers for credit card bills? I was unable to recently make payments due to illness and the card company referred the accounts a law firm who have filed in county court. This law firm has been engaging in illegal practices to collect: sending bills to other family members; calling on Sundays and at all hours of the night. I am also terrified of having my accounts frozen after reading other scenarios on this website. What is the smartest course to be on when dealing with slimy collectors?

Answer the papers. The only way your account will be frozen is with a judgment if you do nothing like all those others.

Good Luck

I agree with Mr. Groezinger.

To carry it one step further, you can commence an action against the law firm for violations of the fair debt and collection act. This is where you can actually get money damages for their tactics.
