Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Suing on Old Debt

I live in NY and received a summons that I am being sued for a credit card that was opened in 2002 and closed/written off in 2003. It was going to fall off my credit report this year. What is the statue of limitations on this? What advice can you give? Also, I am dealing with Cohen & Slamowitz. Are they going to freeze my bank account for this old debt?? Thank you!

Re: Suing on Old Debt

Statute of limitations period is 6 years. You should be answering the summons. At a minimum, you should immediately either hire a lawyer to answer the summons, or go to the clerk's office to file an answer.

A bank account is frozen only after a judgment is received by the plaintiff.
