Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
my 19-yr old son has been charged w/possesion of stolen property a 1999 audi and reckless driving w/out a license, both felonies, 1st offense. the DA is offering $5000 damages and 5 yrs probation- the car is only worth 2700.00, we have not been given any damage estimate, and no police officer saw my son driving the car at any time. there are about 10 traffic violations added to this, again, no police saw him driving this vehicle. is this a good offer? he does not have the money and they want immediate reparation.

What County is this in? If this is in NYC I would say its not a good offer at all. I can't address what upstate Counties do. I would also want to know the basis for the reckless driving -- how bad was it? Were lives really endangered?
