Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

attempted robbery

a friend of mine is in court right now for attempted robbery only he didn't do it. At the time the robbery was committed he was playing basketball with some friends on the other side of town he had been to the place robbed many times befor so his prints were in the house now that he isnt friends with the owner anymore he is in court because the owner says that he isnt welcome there and his prints were in the house what can he do if at one point he was welcome there and his prints were there?
