Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

harrassment

I have an ex-boyfriend whom I had not spoken to or seen in over 7 months when I started seeing someone else. The ex is now writing horrible letters, leaving ugly telephone messages to myself and my new boyfriend and even contacting my children and ex-husband to spread slander about me. What can I do about it if anything besides inconveniencing my life with changing all of my phone numbers and watching over my shoulder everywhere I go?

Re: harrassment

Call the police. He is committing aggravated harassment an A misdemeanor and can be placed in jail for up to one year.

Additionally ask for an order of protection and ask that it say on it that he stay at least 50 feet away from you at all times, and not attempt to converse with you or otherwise attract your attention.

Good Luck.

Re: harrassment

Report it to the local precint. It would seem to be a violation of one of the harassment statutes, NYPL 240.26 (3) or 240.30 (1)
