Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I was living in a foreclosed home and found some items that were abandoned and inside and didn't belong to anyone inside the home, can I be arrested for taking them when I leave. A tenant who was living there without a lease is trying to claim them but I know they aren't his. Can he call the cops on me, and can they do anything?

Anyone can call the police, and they may or may not investigate. If you were living in a home without permission and took items from the property, then you very well could be arrested and charged with a number of crimes. Whether you are likely to be convicted is highly dependent on the evidence that the police have against you.

If you are facing criminal charges, then you should contact an attorney right away. Only your attorney can give you legal advice on the situation, and only after reviewing all of the facts. The above is just some legal information, not advice.

Best of luck.
