how much time in jail can a person get for a loaded gun?

There is no exact science to this, what I can tell you is in my experience what the times most DA's would look for would be...

some of the questions would be what other charges are associated with the case? is it just a possession charge? if so, what exact charge? is there a previous history of such crimes? or any record at all?

generally, on the low end most DA's look for a minimum of one year jail time on these cases...

depending on the situation, it may be possible to supress the gun itself and as a result end up leaving the DA with a very weak, to non existant, case.

These types of charges are very serious. The amount of time that can result depends on a number of factors, including what the actual charge is. The person's age and previous criminal record are also factors that may need to be looked at.
