Although the possible penalty is up to a year in jail - it is highly unlikely that one would receive jail time on a first offense. In any event, you should have a qualified attorney represent your interests. Please call for a free consultation after hours 917.922.7192.

Re: petty laceny

Up to one year in jail and a One Thousand ($1000.00)Dollar Fine. More than likely he or she is actually facing up to 60 days in jail and 3 years probation. Paying the 500 back before the case ends and without being asked can help reduce the likelihood of jail. Probation is possible but courts generally punish employee theft more harshly than regular petit larceny.

If you or a loved on is charged with this crime you should seek out the help of a lawyer to make sure you get the best representation you can have.

Good luck.
