Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Pink summons-Public Urination

I received a pink summons for public urination. The officer who issued it told me if pleading guiltyI can go to the court anytime prior to or on the specified date on the summons. I have been told this is incorrect, thaat I must appear on that date only. He also informed me that it will be a $20 fine which I've also ben told is incorrect.

Could someone please inform me of what is & isn't correct?

Re: Pink summons-Public Urination

i would NOT appear any day before the date on the summons, the way the court system wors you may end up getting a warrant issued for your arrest for missing the court date, when youd already come in earlier... ive seen it happen many times so my suggestion would be to go on the date youre actually scheduled for...

as far as the fine, it all depends because you may be offered a plea to another charge which would potentially be less or more of a fine... generally there is a $25 fine but then there may be a surcharge added to that fee of up to $95...

much luck...

Re: Pink summons-Public Urination

You can appear on the return date or within the return date week but not after the return date. The court has the records about one week before the return date. The charge is usually a misdemeanor which has potential jail time and a potential criminal record. This rarely if ever happens. I represent many of these cases and have never had a misdemeanor conviction nor a fine exceeding $100.00. My fee for representation is also very reasonable.
