Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

If i was stopped for a stolen car and when i got to court the stolen car was dropped the cops said they got a low jack signal, thats why they stopped . Once out the car the cops began to search it asked me if there was any thing illegal in the car I told them I had a littlle weed in my truck. they charge me with car theft but once in court there is no mention of car terft my car was taken from me and drivers lic suspened for sim months. Being that they stopped me for the stolen car which was dropped can they hold the weed charge against me and if so why because that is not the reason they stopped me. Its after the fact of the low jack system. Mine you that all the car paper work is in my name for the car
